Champions League: Prediction for Semi-Final Match-Ups

Today we received the results on the Champions League semi-finals drawing. The first semi-finals match-up drawn was Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid. The second semi-finals match-up drawn was Monaco vs Juventus.

First, let’s consider the match-up of Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid. Their first leg match is 2:45 p.m. EST, on May 2nd. The second leg match is at 2:45 p.m. EST, on May 10th. Since 2014, both have done quite well in the champions league. Real Madrid won twice: 2014 and 2016. While, Atletico Madrid was the runner-up in years 2014 and 2016. Just last year they fought it out in the finals. That game went to penalties following the 1-1 tie. Real Madrid finds itself in this year’s semi-finals, largely due to the performance of Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo. Atletico Madrid finds itself in this year’s semi-finals, largely due to the performance of Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann. My prediction for this match-up is that, like the 2016 UEFA Champions League Final this match-up will be won by Real Madrid in penalties.

Let’s turn our attention to the other match-up, Monaco vs Juventus. Their first leg match is 2:45 p.m. EST, on May 3rd. And, their second leg match is at 2:45 p.m. EST May 9th. Since 2014, Juventus has been a championship caliber team, while Monaco has been a competitor but has not made it to a final. Juventus was the runner-up in 2015. Meanwhile, in the last 3 years Monaco has made no finals appearance. Juventus finds itself in this year’s semi-finals largely due to the performance of Juventus goalkeeper and captain, Gianluigi Buffon. Monaco finds itself in this year’s semi-finals largely due to the performance of forward and captain, Radamel Falcao. My prediction for this match-up is that Juventus will advance to the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final, after winning both legs.
