Quick Recap of the 2016/2017 Premier League Season

May 21, 2017 marked the final day of the Premiere League’s 2016-2017 season. After a great season full of twists and turns lets see how it ended up.

To begin our Recap, lets look into the top of the table. Even before the final match began, Chelsea’s title had already been set in stone. As in the end, Chelsea finished 7 points ahead of Tottenham–the second place team–. Chelsea helped seal their fate by winning all five of their final games. They weren’t going to give Tottenham a chance. As a result, they got to triumphantly lift the league title.

Now, the top four teams in The Premiere League have secured spots in the group stage of The Champions League. This means even the three teams that barely failed to win the title, will still get something in return for their outstanding play. So, next year as opposed to Leicester City, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester City we will see Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

On the opposite of the spectrum, three teams were relegated down a league today: 20th place Sunderland, 19th place Middlesbrough, and 18th place Hull City. This year’s team to barely escape relegation is 17th place Watford. Even though Watford lost all five of their last games, they still were miraculously able to escape relegation. Not exactly a great way to end the season. Now the three team’s moving up to the Premier League next year are Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion, and the winner of Reading vs Huddersfield Town. Newcastle and Reading have a history of being in The Premiere League for multiple years, so it will be interesting to see if they can replicate their previous states of glory.

We will likely look more in depth at many aspects of this season though for the time being, here are the major talking points. Though, let us know if you do or don’t want to see a closer look into other aspects of this season, and if so we will be sure to provide that.
