Quick Recap of How the La Liga Season Went

May 21, 2017 marked the final day of the season. After another great season, we got to see a very close contest for first between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

To begin our Recap, lets look into the top of the table. Now coming into the final match-day stakes for the title were high. As in the end, Real Madrid finished only 3 points ahead of Barcelona–the second place team–. Real Madrid helped seal their fate by winning all five of their final games. They knew Barcelona were prepared to take the title from under their nose. After all, Barcelona had Real Madrid beat in the tie-breakers. If Real Madrid had lost one extra game, then Barcelona would be the ones who’d claim 1st place. Though Real Madrid continued to play well, and as a result they got to triumphantly lift the league title.

Now, the top four teams in La Liga have secured spots in the group stage of The Champions League. This means even the three teams that fell short of the title, will still get something in return for their outstanding play. So, next year as opposed to Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Villarreal we will see Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Sevilla. Villarreal missed out on the Champions League due to finishing 5th. They were 5 points away from once again having a spot.

On the opposite of the spectrum, three teams were relegated down to Segunda Division: 20th place Granada CF, 19th place Osasuna, and 18th place Sporting de Gijon. This year’s team to nearly get relegated is 17th place Leganes. Now the three team’s moving up to the Premier League next year are Levante–finished 1st–, Girona–finished 2nd–, and the winner of the promotion tournament.

We will likely look more in depth at many aspects of this season though for the time being, here are the major talking points. Though, let us know if you do or don’t want to see a closer look into other aspects of this season, and if so we will be sure to provide that.
