Quick Recap of How the Bundesliga Season Went

May 20, 2017 marked the final day of the season. After another great season, we got to see a very surprising performance by newly promoted RB Leipzig.

To begin our Recap, lets look into the top of the table. Now Bayern Munich dominated this year, and as such clinched their 5th title in a row. As in the end, Bayern Munich finished a whole 15 points ahead of RB Leipzig–the second place team that was promoted following their 2015-2016 season–. Bayern Munich helped seal their fate by absolutely destroying other teams with a goal difference of 67. The second best goal difference was 32, which is less then half of Bayern’s–The second best goal difference was gotten by Borussia Dortmund who finished 3rd–. If anyone can stop the domination of Bayern Munich it will be RB Leipzig. This year may usher in a rivalry for the title between Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. After all, in one season RB Leipzig have already finished above the past main rival of Bayern, Borussia Dortmund.

Now, the top four teams in the Bundesliga have secured spots in the group stage of The Champions League. This means even the three teams that fell short of the title, will still get something in return for their outstanding play. So, next year as opposed to Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and Borussia Monchengladbach we will see Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and TSG Hoffenheim.

On the opposite of the spectrum, two teams–or three if the third best 2. Bundesliga team beats the third worst Bundesliga team– were relegated down to 2. Bundesliga: 18th place SV Darmstadt 98, and 17th place FC Ingolstadt 04. This year’s team to nearly get relegated is 17th place Leganes. Now the two teams moving up to the Premier League next year are VfB Stuttgart–finished 1st–, and Hannover 96–finished 2nd–. TSV Eintracht Braunschweig had a chance at promotion, but lost to Wolfsburg in the promotion/relegation tournament.

We will likely look more in depth at many aspects of this season though for the time being, here are the major talking points. Though, let us know if you do or don’t want to see a closer look into other aspects of this season, and if so we will be sure to provide that.
