Quick Recap of How the Serie A Season Went

May 28, 2017 marked the final day of the season. After another great season, we got to see a very close contest for first between Juventus, Roma, and Napoli.

To begin our Recap, lets look into the top of the table. Now coming into the final match-day while the title was decided, 2nd wasn’t. As in the end, Juventus finished 4 points ahead of Roma–the second place team–, while Roma only finished a mere point ahead of Napoli–the third place team–. Juventus helped seal their fate by not losing a single home game. They knew Roma were not going to let them have an easy go at the title. After all, Roma had beaten them in the third to last game putting the pressure on Juventus to win out. If Juventus had choked in the last 2 games as Roma had hoped, then Roma would be the ones who’d claim 1st place. Though Juventus continued to play at their potential, and as a result they got to claim Serie A’s 2016-2017 title.

Now, the top three teams in Serie A have secured spots in the group stage of The Champions League. This means even the two teams that fell short of the title, will still get something in return for their outstanding play. Now, the top three teams are the exact same as last year. So, for the second year in a row Juventus, Napoli, and Roma will go to The Champions League.

On the opposite of the spectrum, three teams were relegated down to Serie B: 20th place US Pescara, 19th place Palermo, and 18th place Empoli. This year’s team to nearly get relegated is 17th place Crotone–only finished ahead of Empoli by 2 points–. Now the three team’s moving up to Serie A next year are SPAL–finished 1st–, Hellas Verona–finished 2nd–, and Benevento–finished 5th, but won promotion tournament–.

We will likely look more in depth at many aspects of this season though for the time being, here are the major talking points. Though, let us know if you do or don’t want to see a closer look into other aspects of this season, and if so we will be sure to provide that.
