Confederations Cup Semi-Final Match: Germany vs Mexico Recap

June 29th saw the final Semi-Final Match-Up. Germany and Mexicofaced off in this one.

The favorite for this match was Germany. The reason being, Germany according to Fifa’s rankings is the 3rd best national team in the world. Mexico on the other hand, is ranked 17th. While both were quite good, Germany definitely seemed to be the better team.

After only six minutes Leon Goretzka scored the first goal giving Germany a 1-0 lead. Only two minutes later, Leon Goretzka scored a second goal. Germany now had a 2-0 lead. This concluded the highlights for the first half.

Halftime saw Mexico sub out Javier Aquino for Hirving Lozano. The 55th minute saw Mexico’s Raúl Jiménez receive a yellow card. Four minutes later, Timo Werner scored Germany’s 3rd goal. Germany now led 3-0. By the 63rd minute, Mexico subbed in Marco Fabián to replace Giovani dos Santos. The 67th minute saw Mexico sub out Jonathan dos Santos for Rafael Márquez, and Germany sub out Rafael Márquez for Emre Can. Five minutes later Germany’s Emre Can was given a yellow card. By the 79th minute Germany subbed in Julian Brandt for Lars Stindl. The 81st minute saw Germany sub in Amin Younes for Julian Draxler. Eight minutes later Mexico’s Marco Fabián scored the team’s first goal of the match. In added time Germany’s previous substitute Amin Younes scored the game’s fifth goal. Germany now lead 4-1. These were all of the second half highlights.

With this win Germany advances to the Confederations Cup Finals.
